2008 Gibson Custom Shop Tak Matsumoto DC Goldtop Tom Murphy Aged 1 of 20 Pilot Run
NT$ 788,000.00

One of only 20 pieces worldwide, this is an exceptionally rare dream guitar. Among all Tak Matsumoto signature models produced over the years, this is the only one personally aged by Gibson's legendary master builder, Tom Murphy. Released in 2008 as a limited "Pilot Run" series of just 20 guitars, it was never offered for public retail. Aside from the instrument kept by Tak Matsumoto himself, all were acquired by private collectors and rarely surface, even in the Japanese market. Following this batch of 20 Pilot Run Aged guitars, Gibson subsequently released a limited Gloss edition of 80 pieces in the same year.
Tom Murphy’s hand-aging marks are visible throughout the body. Being pilot models, the razor checking and aging details are noticeably finer and more meticulous than on other Murphy Aged guitars from that year. Built entirely to Historic Collection specifications, it features a mahogany body and neck paired with a rosewood fretboard. It comes factory equipped with a pair of BurstBucker #2 & #3 pickups, which deliver prominent highs and higher output to precisely suit Tak Matsumoto's tonal requirements. The neck features Tak Matsumoto’s custom profile (.845" to .945"), offering a feel close to a '60s neck but slightly narrower, making for a remarkably comfortable grip.
Tom Murphy later ceased working on collaborations with signature master artists. Combined with its extremely limited production count, this model stands as the rarest and most collectible piece in the entire Tak Matsumoto signature series. A similar model currently available in Japan is listed at 5 million JPY. Guitar Shop Taiwan is now releasing this piece from our private collection, a rare opportunity for discerning collectors.
The guitar is in near-mint, collector-grade condition with no obvious signs of use, and comes complete with all original accessories.
